Maxxis / 20 years of Shred

It’s been 20 years since the Maxxis Minion DHF touched dirt for the first time. The distinctive tyre quickly became a favourite of gravity athletes and enthusiasts alike, famous for its cornering capability and rolling speed. Two decades on, it’s still going strong.

The now-iconic tread pattern – large, squared cornering blocks, channel-cut centre knobs and wide spacing - was the brainchild of Colin Bailey, a rider on the Maxxis factory team in the early 2000s.

Maxxis is proud of what their many riders and teams have achieved aboard the Minion over the past two decades. In a shred down memory lane to mark the anniversary, international and Kiwi riders alike paid homage to the Maxxis DHF.

Founding father of Freeride and Maxxis ambassador Brett Tippie: “To think about how much mountain bikes have changed over the last 20 years, while the DHF continues to be a top choice of DH and Enduro racers, Freeriders and Bike Park shredders alike, is unreal.”

Canadian MTB extraordinaire and YETI-Maxxis ambassador Geoff Kabush: “Good rubber never gets old, and the Minion DHF keeps on delivering on the racecourse.”

New Zealand DH legend and Maxxis ambassador Kieran Bennett: “Without a doubt the most versatile bike tyre ever made... it was released right around when I started racing and I’m still running them to this day!”

Kiwi rider Matt Walker of Pivot Factory Racing: “The benchmark since day one and nothing else comes close. 20 years of this iconic tyre and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Marleen has been the New Zealand distributor for Maxxis bike tyres during this time, first delivering Maxxis to the NZ market in the early 1990's, and has been thrilled to bring Kiwis along for the ride.

"Mobster, MOFO, Hard Drive, Larsen… since the start the Maxxis development team have been relentless in bringing many new technologies, Tyre designs and compounds to passionate bikers worldwide and this ambition to make the best tyres is in the world continues today with the latest tyres. But few designs have been embraced and adored by racers and the rest of us for so long as the Minion. 20 years and counting as one of the most popular tyres around - what more needs to be said!"  - Bevan Burgess, Marleen Wholesalers Ltd.

To honor the Minion DHF’s milestone, Maxxis released a special 20th Anniversary limited edition tyre, along with a series of accessories.
Because 20 years of shred is something worth celebrating.
